MYLC celebrates a year of success

By Aldo Amato

Staff Reporter

MADISON — In its inaugural year, the Madison Youth Leadership Council (MYLC) celebrated massive success.

Founder Nansi Clark and the rest of council met on June 21 to celebrate the first year. The council was comprised of 24 high school students from James Clemens and Bob Jones High School. Clark said the students selected to the council had to undergo a “rigorous application and interview process.”

“This student-led group of leaders immediately put their considerable talents to work in creating social media outlets for the council, initiating and executing council meetings and events and improving their skills through mentoring and evaluation,” Clark said in July 1 release. “Area businessmen and government officials invested time, energy and resources in the MYLC bringing excellence to every scheduled event.”

Some of the events the MYLC put on included scuba diving class, lunch with business leaders and entrepreneurs and a state government day.

“What I liked most about the MYLC was that it was almost entirely student run,” member Jessica Deming said. “The program felt like it was training everyone in the group to be a leader.”

MYLC president Austin Clark thanked leaders for guiding the new group to unprecedented heights.

“Thanks to our city’s talented professionals for creating the best club experience that high school has to offer,” he said.
