The 2013 North Alabama Women of Distinction Awards are open to all women in Colbert, Cullman, DeKalb, Franklin, Jackson, Lauderdale, Lawrence, Limestone, Madison, Marshall, Morgan and Winston counties.

“Any individual, employer, civic organization or agency in each of the four areas (central, east, north and west) can submit a nomination,” communications coordinator Robyn Tucker said. “The awards are open to women who have made special contributions to their communities through civic, academic or professional efforts.”

The deadline for all nominations is Nov. 22.

Nomination forms are available online at girlscoutsnca.org/wodnorth. A group of community leaders from across the council will select the nominations in December. For more information, call Kelly Connelly at 205-453-9513 or email to kconnelly@girlscoutsnca.org.

“The Women of Distinction awards program is the premier fundraising event for the Girl Scouts of North-Central Alabama,” Tucker said. “All proceeds from these events directly support the Girl Scouts’ mission to build girls of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place.”

Women chosen for this award will be recognized at the annual Women of Distinction event at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville in August 2014. At this time, the Girl Scout organization also will present the Christine Richard Lifetime Achievement Award.

This achievement award honors the memory of Richard, a beloved community leader whose contributions had far-reaching impact for the North Alabama region, Tucker said.

“Girl Scouting gives every girl access to life-changing experiences that inspire her to do something big,” Tucker said.

A United Way community partner, Girl Scouts of North-Central Alabama serves more than 15,000 girls from five to 17 years old and 5,000 volunteers in programs across 36 counties.
