MADISON – Madison City Police Department wants to know if they met expectations during 2013 and hopes Madison residents will fill out a brief survey.

The survey contains “approximately 30 questions that will help shape our efforts in 2014,” Madison Police Chief Larry R. Muncey said. “Please take the time to complete the survey. The Madison Police Department team would really appreciate your input.”

The survey is available at surveymonkey.com/s/YPCMK7F2014MPDSurvey.

Information from the survey will identify strengths and weaknesses, based on demographic perceptions, Muncey said. For example, if numerous females don’t feel safe walking alone in their neighborhood, the police may offer self-defense training for women.

“By completing this survey, you will provide useful information concerning our community and how service to our citizens can be enhanced,” Muncey said. “It is not necessary that you provide your name or address as anonymous submissions will be accepted.”

The survey’s first page asks for statistics like age, gender, race and length of residency. This page is optional, but officers hope that residents will answer these multiple-choice questions.

The questions then refer to the level of safety that residents feel around the community. Each individual can indicate if he or she feels safe at home, walking alone in the neighborhood, in parks, walking on greenways and around town after dark.

Next, the survey wants opinions on the service by police officers. Individuals can state if police presence and traffic enforcement is sufficient both in their neighborhoods and around the city. Other items pertain to the professionalism of all employees in the police department.

The last page asks residents to prioritize the importance of city-sponsored funding to schools, roads, library, development, senior center, parks and public safety. The survey also covers the importance of police programs, like Kids Camp, and school resource officers.

Madison Police Department is located at 100 Hughes Road in Madison Municipal Complex. For emergencies, call 911; for non-emergencies, call 256-772-5658.
