HUNTSVILLE – Ella Burch, Trinity Christian and Hannah Schricker in Girl Scout Troop 157 recently earned the Bronze Award for their project at the Downtown Rescue Mission.

The girls are students at Goldsmith-Schiffman Elementary School in Huntsville.

“The girls collected food and hygiene products from local retailers and made care packages to donate to the Downtown Rescue Mission,” Robyn Tucker said. Tuckers works as communications coordinator for the Girl Scouts of North-Central Alabama.

“The girls enjoyed making a difference by helping the homeless. Asking for the donations taught the girls persistence,” Tucker said. Burch, Christian and Schricker persevered with gathering supplies even though they heard the word ‘no’ numerous times.”

The Girl Scout Bronze Award is the highest accolade that a Girl Scout Junior, who is in fourth or fifth grade, can earn. This award recognizes that the Scout has gained required leadership and planning skills “to follow through with a project that makes a positive difference in her community,” Tucker said.

Girl Scouting affords all girls the access to “life-changing experiences that inspire her to do something big,” Tucker said.

Girl Scouts of North-Central Alabama is a community partner with United Way and serves more than 15,000 girl members who are five to 17 years old. The organization has 5,000 volunteers in programs across 36 counties.
