MADISON – Grace Presbyterian Church will host a Charity Valentine’s Celebration on Feb. 14.

“Valentine’s Day celebrates love, a basic teaching of our faith: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself,'” event coordinator Muriel Lynne Bartholomae said. “At Grace Presbyterian, we think love of friends, family and special people in our lives is well worth celebrating.”

The Charity Valentine’s Celebration will raise funds to train three individuals for the Living Waters for the World project, endorsed by the Presbyterian Church and civic groups, like Rotary. Mission teams install water filtration in communities from Appalachia to Latin America (livingwatersfortheworld.org).

Each guest will receive a box of two heart-shaped, European-style chocolate truffles from Chocolate by Julia, owned by Julia Bong (chocolatebyjulia.com). “No Valentine’s night would be complete without some chocolate,” Bartholomae said.

Sweet Thing Pastry by Aubri Woodard will serve decadent desserts, including Midnight Mint, Velvet Cherry and California specialty cakes, chocolate tarts, cupcakes and chocolate-dipped shortbread cookies (sweetthingpastry.com).

The Italian-inspired dinner will offer Lasagna Bolognese or White Mushroom Lasagna by Erin Burke, salad and bread. Beverage options will be hot cider, cocoa, sodas, water, coffee and craft beer from Good People Brewing Company in Birmingham. A group of eight will receive two complimentary bottles of wine from Jules Berta Winery in Albertville.

“We believe one function of the church is to serve as a place of fellowship where we get off our computers, cell phones and tablets and actually talk to one another — to feel a sense of community,” Bartholomae said.

Weather permitting, guests will roast S’mores at the church’s new fire pit. Four rooms of games and a photo booth with Valentine props will entertain partygoers.

Casual attire is appropriate for the event, which will run from 7 to 11 p.m.

Tickets are pre-sale only for $35 or $25 for two or more tickets through Feb. 13. To purchase online, visit gracepcusa.org/valentines2014.php.

Grace Presbyterian’s address is 5555 Wall Triana. For more information, call 256-722-0508 or visit gracepcusa.org/index.php or Facebook/gracepcusamadisonal.
