New 10k race in 2015 to replace Run Through the Roses

MADISON – The Run Through The Roses 10k and 5k race will not be held this year, but organizers are planning a new run for 2015.

First held in 2010, Run Through The Roses was Madison’s tribute to the Kentucky Derby and the town’s signature plant, the Knockout rose.

“We are in the process of completing plans, website and certification details of our new city race,” coordinator Kristen Kulavich said. “This race will replace the current Run Through The Roses 10k/5k race that we normally hold the first weekend in May.”

“Due to many factors, many of which are weather and a variety of other events going on that weekend annually, we have decided to move our race event to a later month,” Kulavich said.

Organizers will use this “interim time and reserve those resources for the new upcoming race in 2015,” she said. “We hope this change improves the good weather chances, as well as allows more people to participate with us.”

For more information on the new race and transition, visit runthroughtheroses.com or Facebook/City of Madison Run Through the Roses.

Also concerning Kentucky Derby weekend on May 3 in Madison, the downtown Derby Days festival has been cancelled.
