MADISON – The hills of Dublin Park will be filled with revelry, and the nighttime sky will explode with fireworks when the City of Madison presents the “Stars and Stripes Forever July 4th Celebration.”

New for 2014, the U.S. Army, Air Force and Marines will stage static displays. The equipment will include 18-wheelers, a Humvee, Dodge vehicle with ‘cool’ features and chin-up bar.

“The celebration will begin with inflatable activities lined up all around soccer field No. 1 at 2. p.m.,” event and volunteer coordinator Gayle Milam said. “Children and adults can enjoy sliding down the giant fire engine slide, or try to find their way through the 70-foot obstacle course.”

“When you get too hot, take a splash down the 62-foot waterslide, or sit underneath 104.3 WZYP’s giant tent and listen to top hits,” Milam said. WZDX Fox 54, 94.1 WHRP and Journey 93-3 WHRP also will sponsor games and activities at their tents. Kids can have a face painting.

Madison’s own recording artist Cristina Lynn will perform from 7:30 to 9 p.m.

A smorgasbord of concessions will be sold. Crave Heat will serve Mexican food. Neon Lily Cafe will have Eastern European cuisine, including kielbasa, chicken wings, Shaurma and Pelmeny plates.

Smokin’ Box will offer pork, bologna and brisket sandwiches, nachos, ribs and barbecue plates. Papa Murphy’s Pizza, Iceworks Shaved Ice and Leaf Artisan Tea Co. will attend.

Granny’s Home Brew will sell funnel cakes and sweet tea. Val’s Awesome Blossom will cook ribbon fries, chicken tenders, French fries and funnel cakes.

J&M Displays will coordinate the fireworks at 9 p.m. “We’ll have the ‘biggest show’ we’ve ever had, due to using larger shells that explode into a beautiful display,” Milam said.

No one can park at Dublin Park. Guests can park at Bob Jones High School and ride the free shuttle to Dublin, which will pick up from 1:30 through 8 p.m. and resume with return trips to Bob Jones’ campus after the fireworks.
