CORNER – A week that began with a theme of payback ended with yet another winning streak for the James Clemens High School softball team.

The Jets, victims of a 4-3 setback to Hazel Green and 3-1 victors over traditional power Sparkman leading up to the weekend, won four straight games to go undefeated in a round robin at Corner.

James Clemens (27-5), which rose one spot to No. 3 in the latest Class 7A state rankings, were scheduled to host Sparkman in a Tuesday game that would put the winner atop the Area 8 standings.

Last week, the Jets fell to Hazel Green less than a week after they knocked off the Trojans en route to the Gulf Coast Classic championship. It was James Clemens’ turn at revenge one night later in the 3-1 win over Sparkman, which had edged the Jets 5-4 in a non-area game earlier in the season.

Against the Senators, Katie McCarley had two hits and an RBI and Aubri James went the distance to get the win for James Clemens.

At Corner, the Jets pounded out 35 hits in th round robin. They defeated Pinson Valley 1-0; 5A, No. 10 Moody 9-3; Oneonta 10-3; and 5A, No. 8 Corner 6-0.

For the day, Sydney Miller was 5-for-5, including a two-run home run, with five RBIs and Lila Young was 5-for-8 with 3 RBIs. James (12-4) pitched 11 innings, allowing nine hits and three runs. Emily Jacklin (15-1) struck out nine in nine innings, allowing five hits and two runs.
