Legacy Boosterthon gives 2,000 meals to food bank

MADISON –Legacy Elementary School at 165 Grove Road in Madison participated in nationwide Giveback Day on May 20. Student and faculty volunteers made 2,000 meals for the Food Bank of North Alabama.

With a partnership with Boosterthon, Legacy school community members worked with Boosterthon employees as one of 22 schools participating across the United States to make 160,000 meals for families in need.

“It’s very exciting to know that Legacy and the surrounding communities have the opportunity to serve alongside Boosterthon as they give back to the families in and around our area,” Principal Keith Trawick said.

A national fundraising program, Boosterthon Fun Run promotes fitness, leadership and character and collaborates with more than 1,900 schools each year. Since its founding in 2001, Boosterthon has raised more than $155 million for schools.

Boosterthon’s annual giveback initiative called “A Million Students Strong” celebrates the collective impact of more than 1 million students across the country by donating to food banks in local communities.

Throughout the 2016-2017 academic year, every time a class reached $30 per lap in its Boosterthon Fun Run, Boosterthon pledged to provide three meals to local individuals in need. “Part of Boosterthon’s mission is to help make every city thrive,” Chris Carneal said. Carneal is founder and CEO of Boosterthon.

“That’s why we couldn’t be more excited to join arms with students, parents, teachers and school leadership to pack meals. Not only will we strengthen our cities, but we’ll strengthen each other in the process,” Carneal said.

Boosterthon raises much-needed funds for schools across America while offering students a unique fitness, leadership and character education program, according to a press release. The company has been fulfilling this need for 16 years.
