Students, teachers face new semester

MADISON – After returning to the classroom on Jan. 4, students in Madison City Schools are looking at full schedule for the spring semester of the 2017-2018 school year.

The district will observe the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday on Jan. 15, and classes will not meet.

MCS staff has assigned a collaborative day for Feb. 15, when students will attend class for a half-day, while teachers will remain at school all day. A long weekend continues with schools dismissed for the Presidents’ Day holiday on Feb. 19.

March 9 will be the end of the third nine-week grading period in the 2017-2018 school year.

Spring Break for Madison City Schools is scheduled for March 12-16. All classes will be dismissed during that week. A weather day has been built into the schedule on March 30.

Another collaborative day will be held on April 13, when classes will dismiss after one-half day but teachers will work through the school day. Another weather day is set for April 27.

Graduation ceremonies for both James Clemens and Bob Jones high schools’ seniors will be conducted on May 21 at the Von Braun Center in Propst Arena. May 24 will be the last day of second semester, with students reporting to school for a half-day. Teachers will return to campus for a workday on May 26.

All activities for the 2017-2018 school year will be complete before Memorial Day on May 28.
