Sparkman’s ‘A Night of Hope’ to help suicide prevention

HARVEST – “A Night of HOPE (Healing Overcoming Persevering Enduring)” at Sparkman High School on April 21 will raise awareness and abet prevention of suicide.

The event will run from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Sparkman cafeteria and is open to everyone in Madison County and surrounding areas. All proceeds will benefit Crisis Services of North Alabama.

Spark Industry Robotics or SIR, Sparkman’s competition robotics team, is sponsoring A Night of HOPE. “We are a student-led simulated company comprised of 45 sophomores, juniors and seniors. Each year, we look for ways to give back to our community through community service projects,” Sparkman student and event coordinator Abi Kunkle said.

“It is important for the members of SIR to learn about serving our community and supporting our community,” Kunkle said.

A Night of HOPE will include dinner, guest speakers, performances and a silent auction. Terranova’s Italian Restaurant will cater dinner.

Melissa Ford Thornton, writer and storyteller, of Madison will share her craft during the event. Logan Bowden will be musical guest. Audience members can buy a Japanese lantern for $3 to light and fly into the night sky at the conclusion of the evening.

“The evening will be reflective, informative and inspirational as we learn and discuss ways to help people in our community find HOPE as they deal with crises,” Kunkle said.

Tickets are $20 per person and available at MySchoolFees.com (secure2.myschoolfees.com/guest_home.aspx?sid=261). Companies or individuals can sponsor a table for $200 or become an event sponsor for $500. April 14 is the last day to buy tickets.

The robotics team will accept event sponsors and donations for the silent auction.
