Tim Tebow To Lead FCA “A Strong Night”

HUNTSVILLE- Two-time national champion, former NFL player and current member of the New York Mets organization in Major League Baseball Tim Tebow will be special guest speaker at the Fellowship of Christian Athletes’ (FCA) “A Strong Night” event scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 27 in the arena of the Von Braun Center.

Tickets for the huge event are free and must be obtained on-line at www.northalabamafca.org.

“He’s a faithful follower of Christ and he’ll have his story and history of the good news with Christ that changed his life and how his faith gave him the opportunities he has in his life,” said Ken Burnett, multi-area director of the FCA.

Tebow played for the Florida Gators when the program won the BCS National Championship in both 2006 and 2008. He won the 2007 Heisman Trophy becoming the first ever sophomore to do so. He was selected in the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft by the Denver Broncos where he played two seasons. He also played for the New York Jets, New England Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles before retiring from professional football in 2016. He chose to try his luck at professional baseball where he still plays in the Mets organization.

Besides his play on the field, Tebow also serves as a college football analyst for ESPN and the SEC Network.

The 31-year old Tebow is a three-time author of best-selling books with his latest released in Sept.

He grew up the son of missionaries and was born in the Philippines. He has taken an open stand for his religious beliefs and passes his thoughts on Christianity wherever he travels. In 2010, he established his Tim Tebow Foundation with the goal of bringing faith, hope and love to those needing a brighter day during their darkest hours of life. The Foundation helps fulfill dreams for children with life-threatening illnesses through numerous efforts. He spreads God’s word in his public appearances.

“We’ve been trying to get him for years and we thought next August would be a great time to do so, but his commitment to baseball prevented him to that date, so we were lucky to get him here now,” said Burnett.”

Tebow’s childhood included being home-schooled and his efforts included legislation in Florida allowing those student-athletes to compete in high school athletics for public schools. The new rules allowed Tebow to flourish in football, thus earning a scholarship to college at the University of Florida.

The FCA is courting local businesses to become sponsors of the organization’s important undertaking, which includes taking part in the Tom Landry Associates portion of the evening’s happenings. The Landry event will include a dinner in the East Hall of the VBC, tickets to A Strong Night in the arena and a personal meet and greet with Tebow. Details about possible sponsorships are also available on the FCA website. Sponsorships are needed to help in the huge financial burden the event is putting on the organization.

A Strong Night will feature a concert with a yet named musical act for the 6,000 expected attendees. Burnett said the musical guest will be a total surprise that night as the artist will play music that will combine the younger and older generations.

“The artist will remain unnamed until concert time,” said Burnett. “The artist is an up and coming act that you would pay at least $50 per ticket in concert, but with our FCA event you will get to see them free. I encourage everyone to get their tickets early as we expect a big crowd.”

Tebow, Christ and the FCA- what better combination can there be for local student-athletes.

The FCA is looking forward to the fact most area high school basketball teams will not play that night and with most football teams already have completed their seasons, they are expected a packed house in the VBC arena.
