Bob Jones Baseball Grabs Area Championship Over Crosstown Rival James Clemens

MADISON- The battle between crosstown rivals Bob Jones and James Clemens came to a new turn this past week as the two baseball programs collided for the first Area Championship series between the two schools in history. The fourth ranked Patriots hosted the unranked Jets in a three-game series to end the regular season and to determine the Area title.

Bob Jones swept past James Clemens by scores of 10-0, 10-8 and 7-5 to win the title for the third time in four seasons and is the first 6-0 sweep of area opponents since 2013. The Patriots also are 14-4 against the Jets over the past seven seasons.

Bob Jones (33-8) advance to the first round of the Class 7A State Playoffs and will host Area 7 runner-up Sparkman (17-15) in a best-of-three game series with a double header beginning at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, April 29 with a third game, if necessary, at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 30.

James Clemens (21-18) also advance to round one and will travel to the Area 7 winner Huntsville (22-10) with a double header on Friday, April 29 and 5:00 and 7:30 p.m. with a third game, if necessary, at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 30.

The State Finals are set for May 16-21 in Montgomery.

In Class 5A, the sixth ranked Madison Academy Mustangs (25-12) defeated Parker High (23-9) 11-1 and 13-0 to win its state playoffs first round appearance and advance to round two April 29 and 30 against a yet un-named opponent.
