Senior center conducts food drive, ceramics sale

MADISON – Members of Madison Senior Center are busy with projects as they wait for a visitor.

In a community outreach activity, center members are conducting a food drive during September. Individuals who want to donate can bring non-perishable food items to the senior center at 1282 Hughes Road.

Residents can drop cans, boxes or jars of food during regular office hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The food drive will end on Sept. 30.

To generate funds for the center, members are holding a ceramics sale. The merchandise has been marked down by 50 percent. “Hot off the press! The ceramics sale is now 50 percent off,” Levoneia Ayers said. Ayers is Director of Madison Senior Center.

The ceramics sale will continue through Sept. 22. Community residents can visit the center and view the ceramic pieces on Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Members of Madison Senior Center have created all ceramic pieces. Each ceramic piece has been hand poured, fired and glazed by center members. All funds from sales of the pieces will return to the ceramics department at the center.

“We are also excited about our visit scheduled with Sprocket on Tuesday, September 20 from 11 a.m. to noon,” Ayers said. Sprocket is the costumed mascot of the Rocket City Trash Pandas baseball team.

“Center members can have a photograph take with Sprocket during his visit,” Ayers said.

The upcoming season will include a special day at the center. On Sept. 22, the center will have an “It’s Fall Y’all” theme party.

Madison Senior Center’s address is 1282 Hughes Road. For more information, call 256-772-6242 or visit madisonal.gov/235/Senior-Center.
