Visibility Art Crawl this week will feature local artists who are living with disabilities

MADISON – The City of Madison is launching an initiative that will highlight artistic talent for individuals with disabilities and benefit a prospective recreational project.

The City of Madison’s Visibility Art Crawl is a new, vibrant event that celebrates the creativity and talent of individuals with disabilities. The crawl will feature more than 70 works of art, according to Marisa Estrada, who works as the city’s Special Needs Program Coordinator.

The Visibility Art Crawl will be held on Nov. 15 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Madison Community Center, 1329 Brown’s Ferry Road. All event proceeds will benefit the Miracle League of Madison, a transformative project to build a fully inclusive Miracle League field at Palmer Park where children of all abilities can experience the joy of baseball in a safe, accessible environment.

The crawl also will include interactive art stations and refreshments. A pop-up shop will allow guests to create and buy their own T-shirts with pre-made designs. All T-shirt sales also will benefit The Miracle League of Madison. (Ticket price does not include T-shirt purchases).

The event is open to all residents, whose attendance will help to support a more inclusive community, according to madisonal. gov. “Celebrate the voices and creativity of the disability community through art, connection and inclusion,” Estrada said.

Tickets are $20. Five-year-olds and younger will be admitted free. For tickets, visit madisonal. gov/calendar.aspx?eid=3677.

The event is a collaboration with two sponsors, the Dads of Palmer Place Neighborhood and Chick-fil-A.

Madison Visionary Partners is serving as a fiscal sponsor for a grassroots, community-led effort to bring a Miracle League field to Palmer Park. In November 2022, the Miracle League of Madison became one of the newest members of this association. Since then, the citizen-led committee has completed behind-the-scenes work to construct renderings, formulate cost estimates and other essentials in project planning.

On Jan. 26, the committee signed an agreement with Madison Visionary Partners for this transformative project within the City of Madison that will remove barriers keeping children with mental and physical disabilities off the baseball field. After organizers secure funding, Madison Parks and Recreation Department will lead the eventual project build-out. The field and park complex for the Miracle League will be located within Palmer Park.
