January’s schedule packed with options at Madison Senior Center
MADISON – Madison Senior Center has a diverse, interesting schedule in January that members will enjoy.
“We are kicking off the year with a full calendar of fitness, friendship and fun. From the Travel Club to our book clubs and chair yoga, there’s something for everyone. Let’s make 2026 the best!” Activity Coordinator Rachael Burrus said.
Times for “Walkie-Talkies” and for “Puzzle Pursuit” are open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Time on Monday is dedicated to “Open Art Studio,” 9 a.m. to noon; “Getting Started With Family History” for genealogy introduction, 12:15 to 1:15 p.m.; and “Tai Chi,” 1 to 2 p.m.
On Monday and Wednesday, members can participate in low/no-impact exercise with “Chair Zumba,” noon to 12:30 p.m.; “Stained Glass Masters,” (requires approval to attend), 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.; both balance classes, “Balance Class I” from 9 to 9:45 a.m. and “Balance Class II” at 10 to 10:45 a.m.
“Line Dancing” on Tuesday and Thursday meets from 9 to 10 a.m. “Ballroom Dance” sessions meet on Wednesday from 1 to 2 p.m.
The ‘seniors’ can engage in a unique combination heart health and percussion with “Chair Cardio Drumming” in two levels of classes. Cardio drumming is fitness-based and combines rhythmic movement with music. (respectfulbears. com) Chair Cardio Drumming I and II is open on Monday and Wednesday at 9:15 to 9:45 a.m. and then at 10:15 to 10:45 a.m.

• Games – “Bridge Brigade,” Monday/ Wednesday/Friday, noon to 3 p.m.; “Open Chess Play,” 8:30 to 11 a.m., “Rook and Dominoes,” 12:30 to 3 p.m., all on Wednesdays; “Games Galore,” Thursday, noon to 3 p.m. and “Ping Pong,” Friday, 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; “BINGO,” Tuesday, noon to 1 p.m.; “BUNCO,” Jan. 8 and Jan. 22, 12:15 to 1:15 p.m.; and “Trivia With Madison Police Department,” Jan. 15, noon to 1 p.m.
• Self-help sessions – “FBI Elder Scam Presentation,” Jan. 12, noon to 1 p.m.; “AARP Driver Safety Course,” Jan. 14, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; “Insight Hour (Mental Health Awareness),” Jan. 7 and Jan. 14, 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; “AARP Tax Aide,” schedule appointment and pick-up packet, Jan. 21 and Jan. 28, 9 a.m. to noon; “Alzheimer’s Support Group,” Jan. 27, 1:15 to 2:45 p.m.; and “Huntsville Hospital FREE Health Screening,” Jan. 28, 9:30 a.m. to noon.
The center extended its hours in December 2025. The office and fitness center are open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.; on Friday, the hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The gym is available on Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Billiards players can access that room on Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
