Woman found dead after early Friday morning fire in Madison
Apartment fire marks the 5th structure fire for Madison Fire and Rescue in 15 days
MADISON – A woman was found dead after an early morning house fire in Madison on Friday. Madison Fire & Rescue said crews responded to the fire on Crescent Circle and Palmer Road around 4:53 a.m.
According to fire department officials, an apartment unit was showing heavy smoke and flames when crews first arrived. It had been reported that at least one person was still inside, so firefighters quickly began extinguishing the fire while a crew from Ladder 1 and Engine 4 began searching the structure for the reported people trapped. They located and removed one victim from the fire.
“Additional units performed vertical ventilation, established a water supply, and searched the neighboring units,” a Facebook post from the dire depart- ment stated. Madison crews encountered three frozen hydrants while working to establish a positive water supply.
One unit was a total loss while the other neighboring units suffered smoke and water damage. No firefighters were injured during the incident.
This marked the 5th structure fire in 14 days for Madison Fire and Rescue. They also responded to house fire in the 100 block of Sleepy Hollow Court last Sunday, Jan. 25.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation at press time.
