Liberty dance team receives superior trophies
The Liberty Middle School Dance Team received two superior trophies at Universal Dance Association's dance camp at The University of North Alabama campus in Florence.
By receiving these trophies, the girls, who include seventh and eighth grades from Liberty, have qualified to compete at Universal Dance Association's National Competition in Florida next February.
The team received a superior trophy for their home routine performance and another trophy for the number of ribbons earned during camp. The team also earned a spirit stick each day for their enthusiasm, attitude, participation and professionalism during the camp.
"The camp was a great experience for the team. The girls were able to learn many dances as well as develop dance technique, said Coach Cheryl Brown.
Other coaches who attended the camp were Allison Miller and Carla Beardslee.
Team members Samantha Hardy and Kristen Plant were awarded All-Star medals.
Those who attended the camp were Devon Branham, Maddy Creekmore, Haylee Hardy, Samantha Hardy, Carly James, Pauline Lewis, Hannah Lewis, Casey Loscudo, Victoria Lowery, Nina McKinney, Crissy Payne, Nancy Peters, Kristen Plant, Jennifer Pikul, Lauren Roberts and Missy Ross.
Local student earns Chick-Fil-A scholarship
Kate Folker, a 2002 graduate of Bob Jones High School, has been selected from nearly 1,000 eligible Chick-Fil-A restaurant employees nationwide to become two of 25 to receive a second scholarship from the S. Truett Cathy Scholar Award.
Honoring 81-year-old Chick-Fil-A restaurant chain founder Truett Cathy, the S. Truett Cathy Scholar Award provides a second $1,000 scholarship to 25 students who were selected from among last year's national Chick-Fil-A Leadership Scholarship winners.
