Mustang defense continues domination

BY SCOTT WRIGHT / FOR THE RECORD

Madison Academy finished their road travel for the regular season by going west to face the Colbert County Indians on Friday night.

The Mustangs (7-2) continued their recent string of dominance and defeated the Indians (6-3) soundly, 42-0.

Madison Academy began the game with a long, six minute drive that resulted in a touchdown to give them the lead 7-0.

The Indians then came out and started a long drive of their own, covering some 50-plus yards before a false start penalty and a Damiene Pam sack forced them to punt.

The punt gave the Mustang offense the ball at their own twenty-five yard line, and they wasted no time in covering the seventy-five yards needed for a score.

A beautiful play action pass from Blake Coward to Nick Haas put the Madison Academy Mustangs ahead 14-0 early in the second quarter.

After another moderately successful Colbert County drive stalled out, the Indians punted the ball to Kerryon Johnson.  This would prove to be costly as Johnson would take the ball seventy-four yards for another score, putting Madison Academy ahead 21-0.

A Malik Miller touchdown run pushed the lead to 28-0 at halftime and would allow the Mustangs to begin resting some players late in the third quarter.

The Mustangs would not need any more points as they would keep the Indians from scoring, but added on another Malik Miller rushing touchdown and another Nick Haas receiving touchdown to complete the scoring.

This caps off an incredible run for the Mustangs over the course of the last four weeks.

The Mustangs have gone 4-0 in the past four games, outscoring their opponents 209-7 in those four games. Other than a late Westminster touchdown, the Mustang defense has been incredibly stingy in yards and points allowed.

Madison Academy seems poised to enter the playoff season on a very high note.

Next week will be the final regular season game for the Mustangs as they play host to Central-Clay County on what will be senior night next Friday.
