City officials, community gather at Connect 2013

HUNTSVILLE — Hundreds from both the cities of Madison and Huntsville gathered at the Davidson Center at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center for Connect 2013.

In his first State of the City address, Madison Mayor Troy Trulock hit on points of success, future goals and a vision of hope for the City of Madison.

“We are successful because of our people, our teamwork, and our partnerships,” Trulock said. “I’d like to tell you all our city is strong. With a great financial future, our city is growing with new businesses and families coming into our city every month.”

Trulock praised local leaders, school officials and Madison residents for helping the rapid growth of Madison making it one of the most successful cities in the state. Some of the highlights Trulock pointed since he took office in November of last year was the national recognition of Bob Jones High School, the early success of the new James Clemens High School and a healthy school system.

“Our schools are outstanding and continue to receive state and national recognition,” he said.

Plans and goals for the City of Madison were also a part of Trulock’s outlook for 2013. Trulock said that along with city officials, he hopes to improve road conditions on Eastview Drive, Hughes Rd. and Slaughter Rd. along with adding a public trail along County Line Rd.

Also introduced in the address was a non-profit organization called Madison Visionary Partners (MVP). MVP will allow Madison residents to become involved in city progress through their donations.

Representatives from the City of Huntsville including Mayor Tommy Battle were in attendance along with members from Marshall Space Flight Center and Redstone Arsenal. Prior to the State of the City address, guests mingled and enjoyed cocktails in below the Saturn V rocket inside the Davidson Center.

Trulock recognized guests that were both in attendance and those who could not attend the ceremony including those in the Armed Services. Before adjourning, Trulock thanked most of all the citizens of Madison for helping him make his first few months as mayor a success.

“Our city is a great place to live because of the amazing citizens like you that help us grow,” he said. “Thank you for what you do for our community.”
