Wright gives update on Madison Hospital at luncheon

MADISON — Madison Hospital was the main focus of the Madison Chamber of Commerce’s monthly luncheon on Feb. 21 and was held at the Best Western Inn on Madison Blvd.
The luncheon featured Madison officials, business owners and local leaders to get an update on Madison Hospital.
Madison Hospital CEO Mary Lynne Wright was the keynote speaker at the event and spoke on progress and future goals for the new hospital.
“We are very excited to what we have accomplished this past year,” Wright said. “There have been things that have succeeded and things that I hope to see improve like our Emergency Room.”
Madison Hospital is one of the first freestanding hospitals in the State of Alabama since the 1970’s. One of the main features that Wright said that she is most proud of is the delivery section of the hospital.
“We delivered our 135th baby today,” she said. “Our staff has been outstanding since we began delivering babies at Madison Hospital. One of favorite features of the hospital is when a new baby is born, a lullaby plays throughout the entire hospital.”
Wright jokingly noted that some of the doctors who stay overnight on campus are sometimes not the biggest fans of the lullabies.
One of the main issues facing Madison Hospital is expansion but Wright said that they are prepared.
“The hospital is in the process of expanding in the next couple of months,” she said. “We know that we eventually have to expand and I believe we have the potential to one day be a 200 bed hospital.”
Wright went on to thank the present staff at Madison Hospital and said that as the hospital expands, it will be important to maintain the type of environment and atmosphere currently found inside.
The hospital recently welcomed Dr. Matthew Hunt, a general surgeon, to its staff and is presently looking for doctors and nurse practitioners to fill an expanding campus.
“Dr. Hunt actually found us,” she said. “But we are looking, recruiting and sometimes recruit while doctors are still in training.”
The hospital will celebrate its one-year anniversary on Thursday, Feb. 28.
