MADISON — Since its inception, Madison Hospital has served the City of Madison, Madison and Limestone Counties to the fullest and provided healthcare for an expanding area of North Alabama.

Madison Hospital CEO Mary Lynne Wright said that Madison Hospital has already started to exceed its goals since opening in February of last year.

“It’s been a great experience for us,” Wright said. “When we built the hospital we had a lot of projections in mind and most of them have come true. Surgery volume is great, emergency room volume is great and the staff is wonderful here and that’s what we’re thrilled about.”

The celebration was a low-key event that brought out Madison Hospital staff ranging from doctors to nurses. Lunch and dinner was provided on behalf of the hospital along with custom print chocolate cakes. A time capsule of events in the past year was also filled and placed next to the hospital.

Wright said that over the past year, some parts of the hospital have been busier than others but everything has gone extremely smooth up to this point.

“Our emergency room has been far busier than we expected,” she said. “We have seen about 32,000 patients and we expected to see around 19,000. We are very pleased with our volume right now.”

A brand new hospital needs a top notch staff to keep it running and the patients happy and Wright said that is exactly what she has seen over the past year now.

“The thing that I am most proud of is the staff,” Wright said. “The employees at this hospital have embraced the concept of working in a small hospital. Every single day they continue to amaze me in what they do when taking care of our patients.”

With many of its goals already fulfilled, Wright said that Madison Hospital is looking to expand its services in the next coming year.

“We definitely want our OB program to grow,” she said. “We would like to be delivering 700 to 1,000 babies a year. We will continue to focus on our emergency room and just really continue on delivering excellent patient care.”
