Mounts retires as Heart of the Valley YMCA CEO

MADISON – Scott Mounts, longtime president and chief executive officer of the Heart of the Valley YMCA, will retire on July 1.
Mounts’ career with the YMCA has covered 34 years. For the past 11 years, he has worked in Huntsville as the association’s president/CEO.
Madison city leaders, volunteers and other residents became acquainted with Mounts in his work to raise funds and interest in building a YMCA branch in Madison. He was instrumental in the opening of the Craig and Steven Hogan Family Center YMCA adjacent to Hughes Road in Madison.
“At the Y, we’re committed to strengthening communities and believe this begins with strengthening the people within our community,” Mounts said in a previous interview.
“When Scott arrived, the Heart of the Valley YMCA was a one-branch association with 214 members, two small child development centers and a resident camp that was rented out to an Atlanta Y,” Scott Seeley said. Seeley chairs the YMCA board of directors.
After Mounts’ development work, the Heart of the Valley YMCA now serves more than 23,000 members with three branches, three child development centers and a rejuvenated camp, Seeley said.
“We thank him for his service and wish him well in his retirement,” Seeley added.
The search has begun for a new president and CEO. Harold Cook, longtime YMCA executive, will serve as interim president and assist the board in finding the association’s next permanent leader.
Cook brings 38 years of leadership experience in the YMCA to the association. Previously, he served as president of the YMCA of Greater Louisville, Ky. and as an executive in the YMCA of Greater New York. He began his career as a branch executive director in Detroit, Mich.
