MADISON – Local author Lysa Parker will share her thoughts at Madison Public Library about her latest book, “Attached at the Heart: Eight Proven Parenting Principles for Raising Connected and Compassionate Children.”

Parker will discuss the book, which she co-authored, on April 30 at 6:30 p.m.

“Lysa has dedicated her life to improving the way children are treated and is a recognized authority on parenting,” assistant librarian Teresa Allison said. Along with co-authoring the new book, Parker has worked as co-developer of a new curriculum based on her book.

The first edition of “Attached at the Heart” won the 2009 “Book of the Year” Gold Award from “Foreword Magazine.” She frequently guest stars on national, international and local radio and television programs.

Parker received a bachelor’s degree in education and a master’s degree in human environmental sciences, specializing in human development and family studies. She earned the designation of Certified Family Life Educator (CFLE) from the National Council on Family Relations in 2004.

In 2014, Parker served as president for the Southeast Council on Family Relations. In addition, Parker has earned status as Certified Educator of Infant Massage (CEIM).

Parker co-founded Attachment Parenting International (API), a nonprofit parent education and support organization. She served as executive director of the organization for 13 years. Before her involvement with API, Parker worked for 20 years as a special education teacher and helped children with multiple handicaps and learning difficulties.

Along with her writing and speaking engagements, Parker currently works as a parenting consultant in private practice at parentslifeline.com. She is the mother of two adult sons, a stepdaughter and three grandchildren.
