U.S. News: Bob Jones and James Clemens among top ten schools in state

MADISON – Madison schools, Bob Jones High School and James Clemens High School, were ranked in the top ten of the best schools in Alabama, according to U.S. News and World Report Tuesday. Bob Jones is ranked No. 5 and James Clemens ranks No. 7.

The schools were judged on college readiness, math and reading proficiency and performance, underserved student performance, college curriculum breadth, and graduation rate.

The report said Bob Jones students have the opportunity to take Advanced Placement® coursework and exams with a participation rate of 66%. The total minority enrollment is 38%, and 19% of students are economically disadvantaged.

It listed Bob Jones’ total enrollment at 1,778 with a student-teacher ratio or 19:1. Out of a possible score of 100, Bob Jones scored 96.78.

Nationally, Bob Jones is No. 555 out of 17,245 schools that were ranked. They are No. 267 in math and reading proficiency.

James Clemens students also have the opportunity to take Advanced Placement® coursework and exams with a participation rate of 63%. The total minority enrollment is 37%, and 18% of students are economically disadvantaged.

The total enrollment at James Clemens is listed as 1,809, making it the largest high school in Madison. It also has a student-teacher ratio of 19:1. Out of a possible score of 100, the school scored 96.09.

James Clemens is ranked No. 674 nationally. The school’s math and reading proficiency is ranked No. 312 out of 17,245 ranked schools.

The graduation rate at James Clemens is 96%.
