Madison Area Lions’ donations help school nurses
MADISON – The charitable spirit of a Madison civic club will ease the fright and uncertainty of sick children.
Madison Area Lions Club presented donated supplies to stock ‘sick rooms’ of nurses on Madison City Schools campuses. The supplies will help students of all ages.
“We held a collection event earlier this summer and want to thank the people in the community for their generosity,” Lions Club President LaToya Dorsey said.
“The collection event was a great success. We were also able to inform the nurses about the Lions’ ‘Vision for Learning Program.’ Through this program, the club provides children without the financial means with needed eyeglasses, which improves their ability to complete their schoolwork,” Dorsey said.
“We collected approximately 15 cubic feet (3.5 large moving boxes) of supplies with an estimated value of $400 for the school nurses. These supplies ranged from baby wipes to Ziploc bags to bandages and will help restock the nurses with their day-to-day (needs),” Project Coordinator Tony Villamil said.
MCS nurses were very appreciative of the added supplies because their budgets to purchase some items is limited. Madison Lions Club will host similar events in the future to help organizations in the community, John Emich said. Emich is Immediate Past President of Lions Club.
“Lions Club reps delivered donated supplies to an in-service meeting of MCS nurses to stock in-school clinics,” MCS Public Relations Manager John Peck said. “Lead Nurse Bonnie Davis thanked the Lions Club for its generosity.”
“Madison Area Family Lions Club is always looking for new members who want to serve their community,” Emich said. The club meets monthly on second Tuesdays at IHOP on U.S. 72 near Madison city limits. Lions clubs identify needs within their community and work together to fulfill those needs.
