MADISON – The clock is ticking down to New Orleans style fun at the 2014 Media Gras Bash on Feb. 28.

More importantly, the fun will translate into technological advancements at Madison Hospital. “We’re blessed with excellent health care right here in Madison,” Medi Gras chairman Lisa LaCoste Clayton said.

New for 2014, the “Artist Mask Competition” motivated local artists and high school students to design the Mardi Gras icon … some masks in over-the-top indulgence, masquerade-esque disguises and others with subtle beauty.

“Artists were invited to create an original masquerade mask. Awards will be presented for ‘Mask of the Year’ and the first runner-up,” Clayton said. Individuals voted on Facebook/Huntsville Hospital Foundation for their favorite designs.

The “Mask of the Year” will be displayed at the bash and later in an exhibit at Madison Hospital. Bash publicity for future years will feature the mask.

The first runner-up also will be on display for Medi Gras guests. This mask will be a featured item in the Bash Silent Auction.

Located in Cummings Research Park, the bash’s venue is the Jackson Center at HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology.

Along with the revelry, the event serves as the primary fundraiser for Madison Hospital. “With great music, food and drinks, the bash promises a night of fun and good times with some of the best people you’ll ever meet,” Clayton said.

The dinner menu will feature red beans and rice, muffalettas, shrimp and grits, beignets and more. Fittingly, the bash’s signature will be New Orleans’ best known potable, the Hurricane.

Winners in the Bash King & Queen Competition will be announced. Contestants’ fundraising will benefit funds for the LUCAS Chest Compression System and MyoSure surgical equipment.

Organized by chairperson Jeanne Steadman, the bash’s entertainment will rock to lively music from Metropolitan DJ. Caricature artist Fred Sayers with Artwork & Stuff will dazzle guests with creative sketches. Rocket City Jugglers Association will supply jugglers and an unicyclist.
