MADISON – The “Taking Care of Paws, Sasha’s Way” event will help Alexandra ‘Sasha’ Dison to help a group that she loves … animals.

In May 2011, Sasha was diagnosed with rhabdomayosarcoma, a type of cancer that develops from the body’s connective tissues.

She completed a 54-week treatment plan in August 2012 for tumors in the pelvic region and lungs. In March 2013, she was placed on an experimental treatment.

With her Taking Care of Paws, Sasha’s Way event, Sasha specifically wants to help animals that are sick.

Recently, Sasha celebrated her ninth birthday. Instead of birthday presents, Sasha requested that party guests bring bags of cat and dog food, which she donated to a local animal rescue group.

Madison Station Bar & Grill, 8694 Madison Blvd. will host the fundraiser on April 29 from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 and include food and one drink ticket for wine, beer or soft drink.

Beth Mumaw, Shrail Heinrich, Liz Cueno and Mark Komara, owner of Madison Station Bar & Grill, are organizing the fundraiser.

Komara has arranged for entertainment at the event. Dave Anderson with Scott Glennon and Jordan Reynolds on acoustical guitars will perform for the guests.

“We’ve asked Sasha to tell us what colors she wants, the type of banners, her favorite song and food,” Mumaw said.

“Sasha has had a long struggle. She planned to visit Florida on March 17 to swim with dolphins and otters, something she has always wanted to do,” Mumaw said. Unfortunately, Sasha contracted a severe urinary tract infection and was admitted to University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital.

“I have known Sasha since the day she was born, gone trick-or-treating with her, attended Easter and Christmas parties. She loves to swim in our swimming pool with my Westie, Tangee,” Mumaw said.
