MCS school board to announce new superintendent today
MADISON – Madison will learn this evening who will lead the Madison City Schools into the future.
The Madison City Board of Education completed its interviews of finalists for MCS superintendent last week and will announce its decision in a special called meeting today at 5 p.m. It will be viewable by the public via the livestream site: https://mcs.eduvision.tv/LiveSched.aspx

The finalists are Dr. Ed Nichols, retired superintendent of Decatur City Schools; Sylvia Lambert, principal of Bob Jones High School; and Dr. Brian Clayton, principal of James Clemens High School.
The position was left vacant by former superintendent Robby Parker’s retirement in February. Assistant superintendent Eric Terrell has been serving as the interim until the position is filled.
“I was very proud of all of our finalists and how they answered our questions during the interview,” school board Renae Bartlett said.
Under normal circumstances, the public would have had the opportunity to meet and converse with each candidate before the interviews, but the COVID-19 pandemic forced the school district to simply stream the interviews online for the public.
“Fortunately, we had the opportunity to seek public input on the qualities our stakeholders were looking for in the next superintendent and the concerns they had that would need to be addressed by our school system through surveys and stakeholder meetings before schools were closed,” she said. “That input was very helpful as we arrived at finalists and settled on interview questions. Each finalist is outstanding and demonstrated varied strengths throughout the interviews. Any one would make a fine superintendent.”
